Samsung LN40B550 LCD HDTV Review
Specifications: The Samsung LN40B550 is a 40-inch LCD HDTV. It is a Full HD model that can play videos at a 1920 x 1080 resolution (1080p). It has a 70′000:1 contrast ratio that produces more realistic and sharper images. This model comes with 4 HDMI ports, a USB port and set of other standard connectors. There are also two speakers that use the SRS surround sound technology, producing a total of 20 watts in audio power.
Design: The Samsung LN40B550 is part of Samsung’s Red Touch of Color series. It measures at 38.7 x 10 x 26.6 inches and weights in at 39.7 pounds. It has a mostly black (glossy) frame with a hint of red on the bezel area below the screen. There is also a small bit of transparent plastic around the edge of the frame. The screen rests on a black glossy rectangular stand (swivel stand).
Features & Performance: After testing several type of movie formats, we found that the Samsung LN40B550 played Blu-ray and DVD movies really well. The standard definition videos were also pretty good. Considering its performance, feature set and price, this is a great mid-range LCD HDTV model. The picture quality would not match the more expensive models in the market, but would be more than enough for the casual user. When connected to my PS3 or my laptop, the video playback were very good. The user interface and menu were also very easy to navigate. At the time of writing, the Samsung LN40B550 cost around $850 each.
